Foxfire

As night takes over the woods
there scattered in decaying logs and trunks is
foxfire.
Only the nighttime the night creatures
the night walkers are privileged to witness it.
Faint green light glowing eerily.
Cold to touch.
Gone once again at daybreak, nothing there
except decaying wood of no consequence and
equally insignificant fungi
bioluminescent only in the dark.
Foxfire secret of night in the woods.

Limerick

There once was a man from Duluth,
He really had lost all his couth.
Someone would say,
How’m I looking today?
He would just tell them the truth.

I Can Soar

I can soar to the stratosphere
on an Eagle’s back
And then fly twice as high
When he tires and returns to Earth.
I hear chimes singing
A song of desire but not hope,
A song of love that has an end,
A song of sadness from the beginning.
I feel a breath across my neck.
It has a wrinkled face,
Full of worries and regrets,
I don’t know why it came to me.
I decide to fly on an Eagle’s back
Up to the stratosphere to get away
But the Eagle is gone
I cannot do it alone.
